WORLD WITHOUT ART

creative freedom, institution, silence
World Without Art is a project comprising an artist's book, a grey painted triptych, an installation and a sound layer.
The triptych was originally made in response to the experience of the pandemic and as an attempt to imagine a world without art. Over time the concept evolved into a reflection on the condition of creative freedom and on the artist's place within institutional systems.
The project borrows the language of application forms, competitions and assessment procedures, exposing the tension between creative autonomy and the need to justify one's practice over and over again. Greyness, silence and traces of erasure become a metaphor for the space between memory, censorship and resistance.
It is a story about what remains of creative freedom once art is subordinated to procedures, categories and mechanisms of evaluation.
