Beautiful Death, 2017/2019

  • Oil on canvas
  • 198 x 442 cm
  • Corrida

“Beautiful Death” is a reflection on the inseparable presence of death inscribed in the ritual of the corrida. Its starting point was the moment that ends the spectacle — the body of the bull leaving the arena, leaving behind a black trace that is at once a physical mark and a symbolic record of passing.

The triptych does not speak only of the death of an animal. It becomes a wider reflection on endings, sacrifice, memory and the human need to give meaning to violence through ritual. The black trace cutting across the space of the painting works as a record of absence — the trace of a life that was present only a moment before.

The work belongs to the “Corrida” series, which examines the tension between beauty, violence, confrontation and human fragility.

One of five monumental triptychs belonging to the Corrida series.
