Clamour is an attempt to capture the invisible energy of the arena – the moment when thousands of voices, gestures and emotions merge into a single collective experience. The painting depicts neither the audience nor the spectacle itself. It shows the pulsating space of tension that arises between the participants of the ritual.
Dynamic contrasts of black, white, purple and red create a structure resembling a wave of sound and movement. The painterly gesture spreads in many directions, building a sense of mounting intensity and continuous exchange of energy.
Within the Corrida series the work becomes a reflection on the collective nature of ritual – the moment when individual emotions fade, giving way to a shared experience of anticipation, excitement and uncertainty.
