Encounters with the Indigenous peoples of Australia and learning about the history of their communities became the impulse for this painting. “Aborigine” does not refer to a particular person, but to the memory of a culture that survived colonisation and profound social change. The restrained palette and the multilayered painterly matter open a space for reflection on the relationship between people, history and landscape, leaving room for individual interpretation.
