In this composition the gesture becomes the principal building material of the painting. Broad, fluid strokes of paint organise the space, leading the eye through layers of colour and matter with a distinct, almost sculptural force.

It is one of the most synthetic works in the series, in which the energy of the gesture replaces the complexity of the earlier multilayered compositions.
