Charge, 2018

“Charge” is an attempt to capture the moment of a violent impulse – the second preceding a confrontation, or following directly from it. The painting does not depict the corrida itself, but the energy, tension and force that define it.

Dynamic, intersecting painterly gestures create a sense of movement, collision and constant changes of direction. The composition becomes an abstract record of instinct, risk and uncertainty.

Within the “Corrida” series the work examines the relationship between force
and fragility, control and its loss, and the thin line separating life from passing.
