“Sigh” refers to a brief moment of stillness during a journey across Australia. Rhythmic verticals and a calmer organisation of space bring into the painting an experience of silence that contrasts with the monumentality of the surrounding landscape. The layered painterly matter and the interplay of light and darkness build a composition in which what matters most is not the place itself, but the way it is lived through.
